LG Lucid 3 now available from Verizon Wireless
News from Phandroid.com:

Arriving today at Verizon Wireless is the recently leaked LG Lucid 3. A variant of the LG L90 we took a look at during our time at Mobile World Congress 2014, the smartphone offers a fair amount of hardware, free of charge (with a 2-year contract and after $ 50 mail-in rebate). In an effort to get their wireless customers off their dumbphone, Verizon says they’ll even kick in an extra $ 50 in trade-in value for those who turn in their basic phone with Edge (but only for a limited time).

LG G2 Kit Kat Update Available From Verizon Via Upgrade Assistant

Friday, April 18th, 2014

LG G2 Kit Kat Update Available From Verizon Via Upgrade Assistant
News from Droid Life:

The LG G2 Kit Kat (Android 4.4.2) update from Verizon is finally available as build VS98024A, though you can’t exactly grab it over-the-air. No, sir, this update is currently only available through Verizon’s Software Upgrade Assistant, which is only available on Windows for LG phones. Sorry, Mac homies.

In order to update on Windows, all you have to do is plug-in your LG G2, then either wait for Windows to prompt you for an action or open a folder and look for a Verizon/LG drive to appear. In that folder, you should find a SWUpgradeLauncher app that will walk you through the steps to getting your Kit Kat on.

The update weighs in at around 2GB, so it’s substantial.

No word yet on when the update will be available OTA. In fact, Verizon’s own support pages still do not show that the update is available even though you can manually update through their software upgrade tool.

The process is pretty painless, so don’t be scared to give it a shot if you have a Windows machine. I was able to do it just fine on a virtual Windows 8 partition on my iMac.

LG will launch golden G3 smartphone with crazy resolution…
News from The Verge:

A third of the way into 2014, we already have new flagship phones from almost all the big Android handset makers: the Galaxy S5, the Xperia Z2, and the new One are all now on sale. The one company that’s kept relatively quiet throughout the period has been LG, manufacturer of the much-loved G2 and Google’s Nexus 5. Today some of the mystery about its future plans has been dispelled as The Verge has received the first image of the retail box for LG’s next big Android phone. Originally codenamed the B2, the new phone takes the predictable title of LG G3 and is set for a summer release.

LG has never seen a spec it didn’t want to enlarge

The gold-colored box is not incidental. Sources tell The Verge that the Korean phone maker intends to launch its next flagship in a golden hue, matching the broader trend that’s been embraced by the gold Galaxy S5, HTC One, iPhone 5S, and LG’s own golden G2 variant. LG G Flex review: There is more to this phone than the curve

LG G Flex review: There is more to this phone than the curve
News from Financial Express:

LG G Flex has a curved screen that can flex itself if needed

SummaryThere is nothing in the curve that really makes you buy this phone. But there is a lot in the phone that can make you take this curve.

I have always felt that Android phones have had a problem finding differentiators. That is why many of them came packed with features, mostly software, that are at the best gimmicks. But it is hard to sell a phone on a gimmick, however good the gimmick might be. That is why of late some manufacturers have been looking at design to be the big differentiator. The most different phone as far as design goes has to be the LG G Flex, with its curved screen that can flex itself if needed.

Design

Yes, with a curved screen you have a design that is bound to make some heads turn. But this is not just a gimmick of a design and seems very practical. The shape seems more conducive to making calls as it corresponds the shape of the face. But you tend to poke your ear with the top of the phone. The curve is also a bit awkward w…………… continues on Financial Express

Without much fanfare, Verizon Wireless unveiled a pair low-cost devices, LG Zone 2 and LG Extravert 2, both of which lack 4G LTE connectivity support and are limited to 3G speeds.

The Zone 2 is an Android 4.4 KitKat-powered smartphone that comes with a 3.5-inch HVGA screen, Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 3-megapixel camera on the back, 4GB of expandable storage (with microSD cards) and a 1,700 mAh battery.

When it comes to the LG Extravert 2, it’s a feature phone that’s selling for just $ 79.99. It has a 3.2-inch screen, side-sliding QWERTY keyboard, 2-megapixel camera, and preloaded Opera Mini web browser. It’s a device made for texting maniacs on a budget.

As you would imagine, we advise everyone to skip these two except if they really can’t afford something be…………… continues on LG Zone 2 and LG Extravert 2 – IntoMobile

LG G Flex review: A peek into the future

LG G Flex review: A peek into the future
News from NDTV:

Remember smartphones with 3D displays? Those were supposed to have caught on a few years ago, but they’re only a vague memory now. On the other hand, full-HD resolution might have seemed like unnecessary overkill, but you can hardly find a high-end phone without it now.

Manufacturers seem to like throwing multiple ideas at the wall to see what sticks. Once a feature catches on, everyone else must adopt it too. LG has raised the bar for exotic, expensive features with a curved, bendable screen, and it isn’t likely that competitors will be able to follow suit anytime soon.

This curved device is an experiment and a precursor to what the future could look like. Samsung’s Galaxy Round is its only potential competition, but that phone doesn’t flex, and is curved horizontally rather than vertically.

In this review, we try to ascertain if the LG G Flex works as an experiment, and whether it’s a sign of things to come: large, bendable phones that can be folded or rolled up.

Look an…………… continues on NDTV

LG’s top-end G3 phone will rock a Quad HD display

Monday, April 14th, 2014

LG’s top-end G3 phone will rock a Quad HD display
News from Engadget:

So far, we’ve only come across beyond-1080p panels in a couple of Chinese phones, like the Oppo Find 7 and the Vivo Xplay 3S. But the spec is definitely about to go mainstream, as LG has just confirmed to us that the successor to the G2 will deliver a “Quad HD” resolution, with four times as many pixels as 720p (that’s 2,560 x 1,440, if you want to count ‘em). Based on earlier leaks, it’s likely that the G3 will have a 5.5-inch display, which means we’ll be looking at a pixel density of around 530 ppi — not far off double what you’d get from a printed glossy magazine.

LG G3 Cell Phone Specs, Rumors & News: New Feature Confirmed to Beat …
News from Latin Post:

First Posted: Apr 14, 2014 02:19 PM EDT

LG has big screen plans for its next smartphone, which will likely be called the G3.

Recently, LG told Engadget that its next flagship phone, the successor to its G2, will be equipped with what the company calls a Quad HD screen. The bigger news comes in its resolution, however. The screen will have 2,560 X 1,440 pixel resolution. This is a major improvement from the G2, which features “Full HD 1080p IPS display [and] clarity of 423-pixel-per-inch resolution,” according to LG.

This new news means that the LG G3 will be part of an exclusive group of phones that boast a bigger than 1080p panel, according to Engadget. The group includes the Vivo Xplay 3S and the Oppo Find 7, two Chinese phones. The high-tech display reportedly means that pictures may look better on the phone and will “look almost analog,” Engadget reports……………. continues on Latin Post

Android this week: Amazon phone soon; LG G Watch priced; Galaxy S5 reviewed
News from GigaOM:

Apr. 12, 2014 – 6:20 AM PDT Apr. 12, 2014 – 6:20 AM PDT

When you think of Android, you probably don’t think of Amazon. You should. Amazon has slowly built up a product line off of the open Android software, starting first with Kindle Fire tablets and more recently with its Fire TV set-top box. The third pillar of “fire” is shaping up to be Amazon’s smartphone with an expected June announcement.

There’s no official name for the handset yet — I like the Fire Fone, but that’s just me — which has long been rumored. Sources told the Wall Street Journal this week that Amazon’s phone will go on sale three months after its introduction, meaning a September launch month. Few details have leaked, save for the recurring rumor of multiple eye- and head-tracking cameras in the phone and a glasses-free 3-D screen. The former makes more sense to me than the latter as Amazon can better learn where consumers are looking when browsing products on Amazon’s website.

Specs for possible new flagship phone from LG leak
News from DigitalJournal.com:

Credible specifications for what appears to be a new flagship phone from South Korean manufacturer LG have leaked online.

Details for a device named the LG LS990 have been found by myLGphones.com who found a profile for the device on the website of US carrier Sprint although some details differ from those published by respected leaker @evleaks on Twitter last month as it was said that the phone’s model number would be D850.

Either way, the specifications match that of a modern high-end flagship device which will most likely be released as the LG G3, the successor to last years G2. It boasts a qHD resolution of 2560x1440px on a 5.5″ display giving the device a pixel density…………… continues on DigitalJournal.com

LG G Flex review: Futuristic smartphone, hefty price tag

LG G Flex review: Futuristic smartphone, hefty price tag
News from Times of India:

Smartphone technology is evolving everyday. It has reached a stage where phones and tablets sport more powerful processors than PCs and laptops. Device makers introduce features with their flagships that may or may not be of use to end users. However, there have been very few experiments with the form factor of smartphones since the full-touch slab design became mainstream. Flexible materials have been showcased and prototyped, but the last few months have seen the first few commercially available devices that sport flexible materials including a flexible, curved display.

LG G Flex is the second phone after Samsung Galaxy Round to boast of this unique form factor. The phone features the curved from top to bottom and offers some amount of flexibility. While people were skeptical if the phone will make it to all markets, LG decided to launch it widely, though it comes at a steep price. Does the LG G Flex offer enough reasons to buy a curved smartphone? We try to find out in our review.

Build & Design
LG G Flex’s unique design catches your eye the very first time you look at the phone. Instead of the conventional flat, slate-like design, the phone is curved at the back in a concave form, vertically (top to bottom). In addition to being curved, the phone can be flattened out to a limited extent by applying pressure whe…………… continues on Times of India

LG G3 camera specs may challenge rivals

LG G3 camera specs may challenge rivals
News from Phones Review:

We have already seen two flagship Android smartphones launched this year and we are still only in the fourth month of 2014. There will obviously be many more desirable devices made available and it is rumoured that the LG G3 camera specs may challenge rival offerings.

There have already been claims that the LG G3 will feature a QHD touchscreen display, but now a new rumour has emerged claiming that the device will feature a 20-megapixel rear camera. This if true will see an increase up from the 13-megapixels unit currently found on the LG G2.

The camera is also tipped to support 4K video capture along with slow motion video, and the LG G Pro 2 already features 4K video recording. Of course this is only a rumour but the device has been tipped to arrive in the next month or two so we may not have to wait much longer to see what the company has in store.

Will you be considering the LG G3?

Best Android Phones of 2014: LG G2, Nexus 5, Galaxy S4, HTC One, and Moto …
News from Latin Post:

First Posted: Apr 08, 2014 05:11 PM EDT

There are a lot of brands for Android phone users to choose from and each one is seemingly better than the other. Here we compare five leading Android phones, LG G2, Nexus 5, Galaxy S4, HTC One and Moto X in terms of processing power, screen resolution and camera quality.

Processing Power

In this aspect, almost all of the models are at the same level as they have really strong processing power. However, Nexus 5 and LG G2 have the upper hand as they make use of the Snapdragon 800 processors. They are slightly better than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 used for both the HTC One and Galaxy S4. LG G2 is deemed to be the fastest device and is more or less the winner in this factor. Moto X on the other hand is quite a unique choice since it has a different approach. It makes use of an X8 chipset with Snapdragon S4 Pro inside. There are certain dedicated processors for various controls.
