Rumor: LG might start making Windows Phone 8 handsets again
News from GSMArena.com:

The LG Optimus 7 was one of the first Windows Phone 7 handsets… and one of the last LG-made WP handsets. The LG is not one of the four companies that make WP8 phones either, but a new rumor suggests that’s about to change.

Korea Times talked to an LG partner, who says that the Korean company is looking to boost sales by as much as 40% (from 55 million for 2012 to 75 million), with smartphones making up the bulk of it (around 10 million per quarter, 45 million in total).

To do that, LG will be releasing new Optimus handsets, including ones that run Windows Phone 8. The unnamed partner also says that we’ll be seeing a 5.5” FullHD device from LG at the MWC, but didn’t specify if it’s an Android or a WP8 phone.

The Windows Phone 8 handsets are yet to explode on the market, so one has to wonder if this rumor is true. Nokia only managed 4.4 million Lumias in a quarter, so WP8 phones might not quite help LG reach that desired 20 million units growth.

Windows Phone 8: Star Features

(click image for larger view and for slideshow)

So far only a few hardware makers have adopted Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform, but that might be about to change. Both Asus and LG have indicated interest in Microsoft’s latest smartphone operating system, which means businesses and consumers will eventually have more choices.

Benson Lin, Asus’ corporate vice president of mobile communication products, said the company is eyeing Windows 8 for its next Padfone product, and that the company wants to make Windows Phone 8 devices.

“With our Padfone concept, the phone plus tablet, I think it makes sense for Windows 8,” said Lin in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “There is no target timeline … but we are interested in making Windows phones.”

LG says it plans on selling 45 million smartphones this year
News from Ars Technica:

LG has made plans to increase its sales ten-fold in the new year. According to The Korea Times, the company plans to sell 75 million handsets this year, 45 million of which will be smartphones. LG also mentioned it plans on making this number by getting into the Windows Phone 8 game. ”We will release quite a number of new Optimus devices this year, and LG also has some new smartphones in the works that will run Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8,” a senior executive from one of LG’s partners told The Korea Times. LG Planning Multiple Windows Phone 8 Smartphones
News from Tom’s Hardware Guide:

2010′s Optimus 7 was last device for LG powered by Windows Phone platform.

According to a partner company, Korean smartphone manufacturer LG is planning a number of Windows Phone 8 handsets.

An executive from one of LG’s local partner firms confirmed the news to the Korea Times. It comes after reports suggested that LG plans to ship 75 million handsets this year, which would represent a considerable increase from the 45 million it shipped in 2012.

It’s been a few years since LG launched a smartphone housing Microsoft’s mobile operating system. During 2010, the firm released its LG Optimus 7 phone, pictured on the right.

LG, which recently denied its involvement in the rumored Google Nexus 5 smartphone, is expected to reveal a 5.5-inch, quad-core device during the Mobile World Congress…………… continues on Tom’s Hardware Guide

LG plans to sell 75 million phones in 2013
News from SlashGear:

Like any company heading into the new year, LG is planning to have a great 2013, and the company is looking to sell 75 million handsets during the 12-month period, 45 million of which are projected to be smartphones. Previously in 2012, LG sold 55 million phones, so their 2013 goal is certainly reachable, but it’ll take some work.

The Korea Times reports that the company is predicting a record year in 2013, and stepping into the Windows Phone 8 market may help LG hit that 75 million mark. Those phones, along with the already-popular Optimus series, could help the company reach record sales this year, but they would still be far behind competitors.

LG flagship for Q1 dubbed GK, Optimus G2 comes later

LG flagship for Q1 dubbed GK, Optimus G2 comes later
News from Phones Review:

At CES last week we heard plenty of interesting news about upcoming smartphones but one phone that we expected to hear about and failed to materialize was the LG Optimus G2. Many had been anticipating its arrival for around spring time but now we have heard of a different LG phone, for now dubbed the LG GK, and it seems this phone is now heading for a Q1 release while the Optimus G2 will launch later in the fall.

We first heard of the LG GK back in October where we told of a mystery device that was to be released in Q1. In November we heard the first rumblings of the Optimus G2 with rumors saying it could come as early as May and many tech enthusiasts were caught out when it didn’t show up at CES. Of course if the GK is coming out soon it would make sense that the Optimus G2 might be deferre…………… continues on Phones Review

Rumor: LG plans full HD phone for Q1, Optimus G2 will come in fall
News from Android Authority:

If you thought that LG’s next flagship smartphone release would be the Optimus G2, think again.

It looks like LG will hit the market with a new high-end smartphone in the first quarter of 2013. The phone, codenamed GK, will feature a 5.5-inch full HD screen and a quad-core processor. Judging by these specs, the device is one to keep an eye on leading up to its launch. It’s very likely that we’ll see this GK phone at the upcoming fair Mobile World Congress in late February.

LG’s display making unit has taken to CES 2013 to show off its 5.5-inch full HD display, which is likely to equip the next flagship device from the Koreans.

Word from South Korean news agency Yonhap News is that LG’s goal with the device’s first quarter release is to carve out a bigger share of the market by releasing before the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Apple iPhone 5S. That seems to be the same strategy th…………… continues on Android Authority

LG, Philips Join 5+ Phone Battle

Monday, January 14th, 2013

LG, Philips Join 5+ Phone Battle
News from International Business Times AU:

ZTE Nubia Z7 and Huawei Ascend Mate which will have 6.3-inch and 6.1-inch of screen displays, respectively, will soon be released. Apparently, it is now the trend for larger, bigger, and “HD-er” screens to show which smartphones offer powerful and dominant features among the different models available in the market.

LG and Philips are currently developing their 5+ inches smartphones and possibly will release them in 2013. It could be their preparation for the upcoming rumours about a new Galaxy Note 3 which nobody knows yet when will it take everyone by surprise.

LG is known for their reputation for screen making and its technology. Their products are used by Apple and Samsung for smartphone devices. At the recent CES 2013, three new displays were shown ranging from 5.5-inch to 12.9 inch and the first likely to the 5.5 is the Lenovo K900.

For the LG smartphone line up, the upcoming device is the Optimus G2 which is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Prime and comes with 5.5 inches of screen size too.

LG Reportedly Halts Nexus 4 Production, Perhaps to Make Way for New Product …
News from Droid Life:

After LG’s James Fisher took the stage during their CES press event and mentioned that the Nexus 4 was the “first of many” products that they are working on with Google, the tech world immediately started trying to figure out exactly what he meant. Are there really going to be multiple LG Nexus device in the near future? If so, when? At Mobile World Congress in February? Later in the year?

Also, what about the Nexus 4? It has now been completely sold out for almost a month with no signs of a return. The phone is new enough that we can’t actually see Google deciding to push the phone aside for something newer. However, the IBTimes is reporting that LG has alleged halted production on the device to make way for upcoming handsets. MWC is always a popular spot for phone manufacturers to show off their latest goodies, but LG’s Fisher also mentioned they have other “tier-one premium” handsets in various screen sizes to release throughout the year.

Tough to tell what’s going on. Clearly something, as the Nexus 4 has been un…………… continues on Droid Life

LG Optimus G Gets New Update, Enhancement Mod

Friday, January 11th, 2013

LG Optimus G Gets New Update, Enhancement Mod
News from International Business Times AU:

LG Optimus G on Sprint is set to receive a minor update patch via OTA, which the U.S. telco said has started rolling out, to improve certain features of the phone and solve previously reported bugs.

That’s good news matched with a bad news. Sprint has yet to dispatch JellyBean for the LG smartphone following its earlier pledge for a December release. It appears that the promise will not be fulfilled this January.

What LG Optimus G owners are firmware tweaks that will enhance the phone’s Visual Voicemail feature and stretch its battery life. This update will also fix the freezing and reset problems experience d by Optimus G users, connected apparently to YouTube use.

It is also expected that Wi-Fi problems will be dealt with by the patch, which will bump up the LG phone to build LS970ZV9.

The update process is now on live status and Optimus G owners should automatically get the prompt to trigger the action anytime soon. But those who can hardly wait have the option to get the update file manually. Simply tap the Settings, scroll down to About Phone and then check for software upgrade.

If the download is there for delivery, authorise the action and make sure to follow the instruction for the procedure to wrap up without glitch. It’s best to do upgrade on a fully-charged handset to avoid i…………… continues on International Business Times AU

LG shows off 5.5 inch 1080p, 7 inch 1920 x 1200, and 12.9 inch 2560 x 1700 …
News from Android Authority:

LG didn’t announce a 5.5 inch 1080p phone at CES, and for some strange reason people are upset. We’d rather the company announce that device and then ship it a month later instead of repeating the horrible mess that was the Optimus 4X HD. Remember that thing? It was announced in February 2012, but it didn’t start shipping until half a year later!

Forgetting about phones for a second, LG is a company that should be recognized for their amazing screen technology. Regardless of what you think of Apple, there’s a reason that they depend on LG for the panels that go into most of their high end devices. With that in mind, we’re pleased to announce that LG has decided to demo three LCD panels at CES that we should see in devices later this year.

Starting with the one we all pretty much knew about, LG demoed a 5.5 inch 1080p LCD. Is it any coincidence that Lenovo decided to cram a 5.5 inch 1080p LCD into their Intel powered K900? We think not. We don’t have any official confirmation that LG is supplying Lenovo with that particular panel, but it’s not too hard to connect the dots.

The second display is more interesting. It measures 7 inches diagonal and has a resolution of 1920 x 1…………… continues on Android Authority

Optimus G2 MIA at CES 2013, oh dear LG
News from Phones Review:

With this week’s CES 2013 event taking place along with next month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, we get to hear a variety of rumours suggesting certain manufacturers will be revealing new handsets. This has recently included LG but the expected Optimus G2 is MIA at CES 2013 unfortunately.

Leading up to the event there were rumours suggesting that LG would showcase the Optimus G2 at its press conference, but as the Android Authority are reporting there was no sign of a new handset at the show. Instead the company did talk about the Nexus 4 as well as the Optimus G among other things that also included the new feature for the Optimus Vu 2 that we reported about earlier today.

The remainder of the company’s press conference was centred on its TV offerings for this year, but there was mention of the Smart Life connectivity between LG’s various devices and its smartphones. According to James Fisher of LG we can expect to hear some goodies regarding new handsets at next month’s MWC event though.
