T-Mobile LG Nexus 4 Available On Wirefly for $149.99

T-Mobile LG Nexus 4 Available On Wirefly for $ 149.99
News from The Droid Guy:

We’re all pretty sad about the availability issues that the LG Nexus 4 is seeing, but it seems like Google anticipated that beforehand as it partnered with American carrier T-Mobile to bring the device to interested buyers with a two year contract. However, even T-Mo’s version of the Nexus 4 was sold out within days if not in minutes like the Google Play Store. But the device is back in stock and interested customers can rush to T-Mobile stores to get the smartphone again. It will require a two year contract as you all know but will require you to only spend $ 199.99 initially, with monthly plans to choose from. But if your luck doesn’t favor you, you might find that the Nexus 4 is sold out even in T-Mobile or Best Buy stores. Which is why we recommend you have a look at this listing on Wirefly.com which is offering the Nexus 4 with a decent $ 50 discount off the original contract pricing. And yes, shipping is free.

It seems like LG hasn’t quite figured out a way to keep the Nexus 4 in stock. With so much on LG’s plate right now especially with the MWC 2013 event coming up next month, we shouldn’t expect the Nexus 4 stock issues to improve anytime soon. We spoke about this in det…………… continues on The Droid Guy

LG’s rumoured 5-inch monster smart phone has been made official. The LG Optimus G Pro (rolls off the tongue and into the heart) is a 1080p palm-wrecker powered by a mighty 1.7GHz quad-core processor.

The existence of the mammoth mobile was confirmed by Japanese network NTT Docomo, with an April release date for our pals in Japan. Discerning details through the fog of Google translate is tricky, but Japanese site Ktai Watch has a little more information.

There’s currently no word on a worldwide release, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this gigantic phone rocking up in Europe, especially as LG has confirmed the 4.7-inch LG Optimu…………… continues on CNET UK

LG Optimus Prime vs Microsoft Surface Phone, Concept Ideas

LG Optimus Prime vs Microsoft Surface Phone, Concept Ideas
News from Phones Review:

The majority of articles we bring you are about new or upcoming smartphones and tablets but every now and then we like to look at concept phones. These LG Optimus Prime and Microsoft Surface Phone concepts will not be available for sale but many concepts have been cleverly designed and show real innovation and give us some idea of what we might see coming to the market. Today we’ll show you the LG Optimus Prime vs. Microsoft Surface Phone and we’ll be interested to hear which you prefer.

Starting with the LG Optimus Prime rendering which would be a real flagship for LG. This has been designed by Rahul Sharma, who has also come up with some specs for this concept smartphone. Sharma imagines a 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor with graphics taken care of with the Adreno 320 GPU, a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 3D display featuring Corning Gorilla Glass and 2GB of RAM.

There’s also a whopping 21-megapixel rear Carl Zeiss camera with autofocus, dual Xenon flash, PureView technology and Vario Tessar technology and an HD projector. Nice idea for it to feature Nokia goodies but hey, this is a concept after all. As well as all this the Optimus Prime has NFC, HDMI, DLNA and a 3000 mAh battery. The form factor of the Optimus Prime is only 6.65mm thick and as you can see from the image above just when you think there’s not much else to offer with smartpho…………… continues on Phones Review

Why LG’s Optimus G is the Best Phone on AT&T and Sprint – Bright Side of News*
News from Why LG’s Optimus G is the Best Phone on AT&T and Sprint – Bright Side of News*:

We don’t lightly throw around the word best when it comes to smartphones, especially Android smartphones, which are essentially a dime a dozen. With LG’s latest offering, the Optimus G, we’ve seen a huge change in the way the company operates and designs their devices. LG has not necessarily been known as a company with the best smartphones, and many users have had absolutely terrible experiences with previous devices like the Optimus 2X. Since the beginning of this long term review, I have recommended the Optimus G to many of my friends and acquaintances and the biggest problem I had was convincing them that LG made good smartphones. Now, after trying the Optimus G, most people were completely taken aback by the responsiveness and overall sleek nature of the phone. In this review, we’ll not only talk about this phone, it’s internals and the overall experience and performance, but we’ll also explain why it’s the best phone on each respective carrier.

LG Overtakes Apple as #2 US Handset Manufacturer; Samsung Passes Apple …
News from Tom’s Hardware Guide:

Samsung remains leading phone maker in America.

For the first time in a year, LG has overtaken Apple in the U.S. handset market to become the region’s second largest phone manufacturer.

According to statistics from Counterpoint Research, LG phones accounted for 13 percent of the U.S. handset market in December, which is one percent more than Apple.

Samsung remained the U.S. market leader with a 33 percent share of the market. Google’s Motorola and HTC came fourth and fifth with nine and eight percent, respectively.

While it’s unclear which LG devices propelled the company’s sales during the busy holiday month, it recently said that its Optimus G smartphone has sold over one million units. A spokesperson for the firm told Yonhap News: “Optimus G and our other latest smartphones gained popularity in the North American market.”

The Google Nexus 4, which is produced by LG, also could have contributed, des…………… continues on Tom’s Hardware Guide

Sony Xperia Z tablet and LG Optimus Pro G phone unveiled

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Sony Xperia Z tablet and LG Optimus Pro G phone unveiled
News from BBC News:

Sony’s new tablet shares the water resistant facility offered by its flagship handset

Sony has unveiled what it says is the thinnest tablet computer of its kind.

The Android-powered Xperia Z is 0.27in (6.9mm)-thick. That is 0.01in thinner than Apple’s iPad Mini despite featuring a bigger 10.1in screen.

It coincides with news that LG is releasing a 5in handset – the Optimus G Pro – making it the latest to offer the so-called “phablet” form factor.

Both devices have only been confirmed for release in Japan, but more details are expected next month.

Mobile World Congress is being held in Barcelona from 25 to 28 February and is a popular time to announce global launches of new smart devices.

Samsung has already said it would show off a new 8in version of its Galaxy Note tablet family at the event.

Beyond being thin, Sony’s new tablet can also lay claim to being the lightest for its size.

LG May Release Windows Phone 8 Device in 2013
News from Eastern Morning Herald:

LG’s recent flagships and pseudo-flagships have all been Android-powered devices – the Optimus G, the Nexus 4, and even slightly older phones such as the Optimus Vu. With the Optimus G and Nexus 4 currently enjoying a great deal of success and a lot of press coverage, it would stand to reason that LG would have no need for Windows Phone at this point.

However, a new rumor suggests that LG is working on a handset that would see the Korean company make a return to Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.

Despite releasing the Windows Phone 7-powered Optimus 7 and Optimus 7Q in 2010, LG wasn’t one of the OEMs selected by Microsoft to release its first batch of Windows Phone 8 handsets. Now, times may be changing, according to the Korea Times. The report quoted an unnamed LG executive in saying that LG “will release quite a number of new Optimus devices this year”, with some of these new smartphones to run on Windows Phone 8 and not Android.

This is the same source that had suggested that LG will be unveiling a…………… continues on Eastern Morning Herald

Report: LG moves ahead of Apple to secure runner-up spot in US phone market
News from Android Authority:

Welcome to the Android era, where the top 2 spots in the U.S. handset market are held by proponents of Google’s mobile OS, Samsung and LG. Validating LG’s surge in North America is the latest report from Counterpoint Research, which highlights LG’s takeover of the spot that once belonged to Apple – though the race was pretty close.

According to the Hong Kong-based research firm, Samsung was number one in December of last year by grabbing 33% of the market share.  Coming in at second and third place – as mentioned – were LG and Apple with 13% and 12%, respectively. Completing the top 5 list were Motorola, 9%, and HTC, 8%.

It’s worth to note that Counterpoint’s report lumped both smartphones and feature phones together. LG may have a lead in the overall handset market in the U.S., but Apple is likely to have sold more smartphones.

Nevertheless, LG has stepped up its game big time against Samsung and the rest of the competition. The Korean recently announced that it’s sold 1 million units of the flagship Optimus G across North America, while the L-series smartphones have sold to the tune of

LG joins the 5-inch 1080p party with Optimus G Pro
News from The Verge:

Sure, the Optimus G is a great phone, but wouldn’t it be better with one of LG’s new 5-inch 1080p displays? Today, Japanese carrier NTT Docomo is unveiling the Optimus G Pro, a bigger, beefier device that aims to compete with the new crop of HD phones from the likes of Sony and HTC. And on the surface, it’s an improvement — the bigger screen has a much higher pixel density (440 ppi) than the old 4.7-incher (312 ppi), and is impressively bright and sharp. That said, the display is no longer the standout feature that it would have been just a month or two ago, and by the time the Optimus G Pro launches there will be plenty of other options on the market if huge, high-res screens are your thing.

LG may be back as the second top phone manufacturer in the US

Monday, January 21st, 2013

LG may be back as the second top phone manufacturer in the US
News from GSMArena.com:

Yup, after years of poor performance in the mobile phone sector, LG may actually be back on track. We last heard that they’ve sold some 55 million handsets in 2012, even though their Optimus G was not doing terribly well, selling only 1 million units during the first 4 months of its availability.

But hey, perhaps due to the incredible popularity of the competitively priced and Google-sanctioned LG Nexus 4 (pictured left), LG managed to outgrow Apple’s 13% US market share.

According to Counterpoint Research, LG actually scored a market share of 14% in the US. Now how’s that for a comeback? We are yet to see where this would take them in the quarter that lies ahead.

Of course, we would advise anyone at LG to wait for a second confirmation from another market research agency before popping up that champagne.

On a side note, Samsung is still the market leader in the US with a 33% market share in the same period.

Running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Pro model would include 2GB of memory, 32GB of storage and support for long-term evolution (LTE). Also along for the ride would be a 2.4-megapixel camera in front, and a 13-megapixel camera on the back.

Many of those specs would be improvements over those found in the Optimus G, though certain variants of the current model already include some of those features.

Is LG planning a return to Windows Phone?
News from Digital Trends:

Despite abandoning Windows Phone for Android over the past year, LG could be working on a new device running Windows Phone 8.

LG was one of Microsoft’s original Windows Phone partners, releasing the Optimus 7 and Optimus 7Q back in 2010, but since then the company has concentrated more on its Android efforts. Having ignored Windows Phone for a year or more, LG was subsequently left off Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 partner list.

It’s now looking like LG wants to return to Microsoft’s fold, as according to a report in the Korea Times, it’s busily developing hardware designed to work with Windows Phone 8. The newspaper quotes a senior executive for the firm, who says, “We will release quite a number of new Optimus devices this year and LG also has some new smartphones in the works, that will run Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.”
