LG Venice (Boost Mobile)

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

LG Venice (Boost Mobile)
News from PC Magazine:

By Alex Colon

If you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, then you shouldn’t judge a smartphone by its specs. Case in point: Based on specs alone, the $ 219.99 LG Venice should be able to hold its own against other similarly priced phones in Boost Mobile’s lineup. And while that should make this a three and-a-half or four-star phone, a litany of bugs renders it occasionally unusable. That turns what could have been a good smartphone into one we can’t recommend.

LG Nexus 4 vs. Samsung Galaxy S3: Google Phone More Expensive Due to Low …
News from International Business Times AU:

The LG-made smart phone Google Nexus 4 is currently facing the dilemma of low supply and high demand.

As a consequence, LG Nexus 4 price is more expensive compared to Samsung Galaxy S3 that is easily obtainable worldwide.

Despite the reappearance at the Google Play Store, LG was unsuccessful in meeting the consumers’ increasing demand resulting to a disastrous 4 to 5 weeks shipping delay for the 16GB Nexus 4 and a much worse delay of 4 to 9 weeks for the 8GB base model shipment.

LG Nexus 4 with a 16GB memory is worth $ 700. The smart phone runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2 with a 2GB RAM and 8GB or 16GB storage capacity. It also sports a 4.7-inch IPS display with 768 x 1280 pixels resolution which shows an impressive 318 pixels per inch density.

The LG Nexus 4 additional feature is a front-facing HD video chat camera plus a back-facing primary 8-megapixel camera.

On the other hand, a 16GB Samsung Galaxy S3 costs $ 550 with some third-party retailers offering a reduced price of $ 490 to $ 520 to consumers.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 ships with Android Ice Cream Sandwich but a Jelly Bean update can be applicable on the first boot with a dual-core processor and 2GB RAM in the United States or a quad-core processor plus a 1GB RAM if the device is purchased overseas.

The smart phone has a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with 720 x 1280 pix…………… continues on International Business Times AU

News from CNET:

The wait for a decent LG phone on Verizon is finally over with the Spectrum 2.

Not only does it run the new(ish) Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it also has a screen that doesn’t require two hands and a stylus. In addition, it’s priced right at the $ 100 mark, making it one of the more affordable Big Red handsets.

Design
With its noticeably sectioned back plate and defined edges, the LG Spectrum 2′s design looks more thought-out and deliberate than LG’s usual slew of devices, save for the high-end Nexus 4 and Optimus G.

It measures 5.31 inches tall and 2.69 inches wide. At 0.36 inch thick and weighing in at 5.16 ounces, it’s thicker and a bit heavier than most LG handsets I’ve run into, and it’s a tight fit in a small jean pockets, but it’s comfortable when held in the hand or pinned between the cheek and shoulder.

LG Spectrum 2 (Verizon Wireless)

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

LG Spectrum 2 (Verizon Wireless)
News from PC Magazine:

By Alex Colon

The original LG Spectrum was a high-end smartphone with a high-end price tag. Fast forward less than a year later, and we have the LG Spectrum 2. It’s designed to compete with the rest of the heavy hitters in Verizon’s lineup, and in most regards, it succeeds. But LG made one key difference this time around: Price. The LG Spectrum 2 is a high-end phone, but at $ 99.99, it costs half the price as other top choices in Verizon’s lineup. That makes it a seriously good buy.

Cyber Monday Smartphone Deals: Lots To Choose From This Year
News from News For Shoppers:

Cyber Monday has arrived and so have the deals on smartphones.

Let’s take a look at what’s on sale today.

AT&T was the first out the gate with a Cyber Monday smartphone special. It launched right at the stroke of midnight (eastern time) early Monday morning. Complete with a 24 hour countdown clock.

Featured in the sale at AT&T are the HTC One X, the Motorola Atrix HD, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, and the Pantech Renue. Each cost 99¢ with the purchase of a two year contract (plus activation fees and such). A&T also has the Nokia Lumia 900 on sale for 99¢, though it’s not listed as part of their ‘holiday sale.’ The Apple iPhone 4 is also available for 99¢ with a contract.

Over at Verizon‘s Cyber Monday sale, they have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus by Samsung, HTC Rhyme, LG Lucid, LG Extravert, Pantech Marauder, and the Jetpack 4G Mobile Hotspot device, each free with a contract purchase. There is a bit of confusion on their site – these are listed as today only on their Cyber Monday promo.  On the actual page listing the phones, they say “This weekend only.” We’ll have to assume they meant the first.

LG Optimus 7 Windows Phone 7.8 update disappointment

LG Optimus 7 Windows Phone 7.8 update disappointment
News from Phones Review:

As expected when Microsoft announced the new Windows Phone 8 operating system the company revealed that all existing hardware would not be able to receive the new software. This obviously left many fans of the platform angry especially the ones that had only just purchased hardware, and to soften the blow Microsoft revealed Windows Phone 7.8, but there may be some more disappointment incoming for owners of the LG Optimus 7.

Some of the new features of the OS were recently leaked that looked great, but it seems there is some bad news incoming for owners of the LG Optimus 7 regarding the Windows Phone 7.8 update. According to WMPoweruser a Polish owner of the handset asked LG about the availability of the update, and got a reply stating the update was not expected to be hitting their version of the handset.

Mysterious LG MS870/LW870 phone leaks, heading to MetroPCS and Cricket …
News from Android Authority:

The Nexus 4 and Optimus G seem to have brought some of LG’s old mojo back, but this won’t mean anything if the Koreans won’t capitalize on that newfound popularity with other cool phones soon.

An upcoming LG handheld going by the MS870 and LW870 model numbers has just been leaked, starring in a blurry image next to Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and getting FCC’s regulatory blessing. And while this looks nothing like a top-tier device for 2013, it might be just what LG needs to appeal to more budget-conscious tech consumers, too.

The mysterious phone seems to be only headed to MetroPCS and Cricket Wireless (hence the model numbers), but that doesn’t mean it can’t become a hit. What pretty much guarantees its potential for greatness is the rumored spec sheet, which includes a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU, Android 4.0 ICS, a 2,150 mAh battery, and LTE connectivity.

Based on the blurry pic leaked from Android Forums, it also looks like the MS870 will sport a large display, very close in size to the one on Samsung’s Galaxy S3 (probably a 4.5-incher). Pricing is “estimated” at $ 180-$ 200, while the release date is “unknown”.

We can’t say much about the handheld’s design based on just the image on hand, but something tells us that this will have some common points with Boost Mobile’s LG Venice. That’s a pretty stylish ICS-flavored 4.3-…………… continues on Android Authority

LG will not be releasing Windows Phone 7.8 for the LG E900 Optimus 7

Saturday, November 24th, 2012

LG will not be releasing Windows Phone 7.8 for the LG E900 Optimus 7
News from WMPoweruser.com:

Microsoft promised to deliver Windows Phone 7.8 to all handsets via an Over the Air update which would not need carrier intervention.

It seems however that OEMs will still be involved, or in LG’s case uninvolved. The company did not release any follow-ups to their first generation Windows Phones, and it seems have now washed their hands off them.

A WP7.com.pl reader asked them if they will be releasing the 7.8 update, and received the following response:

Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting our customer support.
We wish to kindly inform you that it is not expected to introduce software update for your version of the E900 to 7.8.

The LG Nexus 4 has LTE after all
News from Geek:

The modders and hacker community working within the Android ecosystem have a rich history of enabling features that the manufacturers say aren’t available on certain phones. Sometimes it’s recording 720p video at 30fps, while other times it’s changes to how the radio on a phone works in order to gain better service. In the case of the Nexus 4, a phone which has been railed on recently for lacking LTE, it has been discovered that the dormant LTE radio on the motherboard is capable of delivering LTE speeds in certain circumstances.

The network diagnostics menu hidden in the dialer of most phones, which can be accessed by entering “*#*#4636#*#*”, will grant you access to a screen where you can choose to enable the LTE radio on the phone. Alternatively, the

LG Mach (Sprint)

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

LG Mach (Sprint)
News from PC Magazine:

By Alex Colon

The LG Mach is Sprint’s second best keyboarded smartphone. That actually speaks more to the lack of good keyboarded smartphones out there than it does the strengths of this phone. On the positive side, the $ 99.99 LG Mach gets you solid performance, better battery life, and an excellent QWERTY keyboard for $ 100 less than the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE . On the other hand, the Photon Q bests the Mach in nearly every other category. The Mach is a decent option if you’re looking to save 100 bucks, but it’s not the best option available.

LG Spectrum 2 Review – Android Community
News from LG Spectrum 2 Review – Android Community:

Mid-range smartphones are a mixed bag — most of them are decent, but at the end of the day, they usually still leave something to be desired. However, every once in a while, a mid-range device will come along that’s worthy of its accolades and has flagship specs at a budget price. The LG Spectrum 2, which is available now at Verizon for $ 99, seems to be one of those devices. It’s based off the LG Optimus LTE II that was released in Korea earlier this year. LG and Verizon made a few changes to the design and specs, and ended up spitting out the Spectrum 2 to US users. The phone sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core chip, 1GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch 720p HD IPS display, and even NFC and wireless charging capabilities — not a bad combination of features, but we have to see if the handset can use them advantageously. Let’s find out what this thing is capable of.
