Report: Verizon to sell LG’s 5-inch phone as the LG Intuition

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Report: Verizon to sell LG’s 5-inch phone as the LG Intuition
News from GigaOM:

After selling 500,000 units of its Optimus Vu, LG is reportedly partnering with Verizon to bring the 5-inch smartphone to the U.S. The timing is odd, as is the phone’s 4 : 3 aspect ratio, given the success of the Galaxy Note and its coming soon successor.

After passing up on Samsung’s 5.3-inch Galaxy Note, Verizon reportedly plans to sell LG’s 5-inch Optimus Vu smartphone. Droid Life posted a screen shot that shows the handset will cost $ 199.99 with contract, or $ 549.99 without, and it will be named the LG Intuition. As with all other smartphones that Verizon now releases, the Android-powered Intuition will support the operator’s 4G LTE network.

The leaked information follows just two days after LG announced the phone would be sold internationally. The handset maker launched the device in Korea, where it has sold 500,000 units. It’s likely that LG will have to use two different chip suppliers for the Vu based on my news report earlier this week:

Next month, consumers in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America can purchase the inte…………… continues on GigaOM

Qualcomm confirms Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core in upcoming LG phones
News from Android Community:

Over the past few weeks we’ve seen a few leaks regarding an upcoming smartphone from the folks at LG that is rather powerful. Blasting through benchmarks and sounding quite impressive. Then even more details leaked regarding the LG Optimus G smartphone. We now can confirm that Qualcomm‘s extremely fast and efficient new quad-core will be powering the device.

The current processor powering all the most popular smartphones is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, that manages to hold its own rather well against current quad-cores. We got our first look at the new S4 Pro quad-core last month but we now know it is coming, and coming soon.

Qualcomm has confirmed they’ve partnered with LG and have been collaborating on releasing a powerful quad-core 4G LTE device they are calling a “global device.” This will support full 3G and 4G LTE with what they call 3G/LTE multi-mode. So the tradeoff between 3G and 4G LTE will be seamless — something we haven’t seen in the past.

Qualcomm announced today that a yet-to-be-unveiled LG quad-core phone will be powered by its own Snapdragon S4 Pro.

Though the company told CNET that it can’t comment on the device until LG makes its an official announcement, it did say that the handset is “currently in production” and will be sold in Korea in September. It will launch globally sometime afterward.

Despite how little there is to know about the handset, we’re excited nonetheless. And if it’s going to be anything like LG’s first quad-core phone, the LG 4X HD, it’ll be sure to please.

Leaked Docomo document reveals new LG, Sony and Samsung Nexus phones
News from NDTV:

We have been hearing about Google’s plan to launch multiple Nexus smartphones this year for quite some time and now a leaked document from Japanese telecom operator seems to have confirmed that.

According to a report in blog Android Noodles, Samsung, LG and Sony will be launching Nexus smartphones this year. NTT DoCoMo’s winter line-up has revealed the device named as Samsung Galaxy Nexus II, LG Optimus Nexus and Sony Xperia Nexus.

The names do not sound surprising as they represent each manufacturer’s Android device branding.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus II was also leaked a few days ago as GT-I9260, which is minor revision to the existing Galaxy Nexus. It will feature 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display, 1.5GHz dual core processor, 8MP rear camera, 1.9 MP front camera and 16GB internal memory with microSD card slot.

There is no word on the specifications of other two smartphone except the fact they will have NFC on-board.

The leaked line-up has also revealed few other phones as well such as Sony Xperia Walk (a Walkman branded Android phone from Sony), LG Optimus Bright II, LG Optimus Tab II, HTC J,…………… continues on NDTV

Hands-on with the LG Motion 4G

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

Hands-on with the LG Motion 4G
News from CNET:

We take the tiny yet scrappy Android 4.0, 4G LTE phone for a spin.

August 21, 2012 3:45 PM PDT

Finding a satisfying Android phone on a prepaid carrier is getting easier every day. case in point, the new LG Motion 4G for Metro PCS. This pint-size $ 149.99 handset features Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 3.5-inch screen, and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, plus 4G LTE data.

Design

It’s been a while since I’ve seen an Android phone as compact as the LG Motion 4G. The handset is so small, in fact it took a while to get used to the way my fingers wrap completely around its plastic frame. Weighing a solid 4.48 ounces though, the Motion 4G has a dense feel that belies its tiny stature. Also, while I can’t say the device oozes luxury, it does convey a sturdiness that is comforting. Too bad it’s not crafted from metal, my preferred smartphone material, like the HTC One V (Virgin Mobile).

Next Nexus Phones Coming From LG, Sony, and Samsung?
News from Droid Life:

According to a report out of Android Noodles, a document showing the winter roadmap for Japan’s Docomo, lists out three (3) different Nexus devices. The three manufacturers on their list are Samsung, LG, and Sony. The report mentions a 3-column table that references the three devices, however, no picture or further proof was provided.

What we do know, is that a report out of the Wall Street Journal back in May suggested that Google wanted to have more than one Nexus partner this year and had opened up the program to at least 5 different OEMs. So if Docomo has three Nexus devices on their winter roadmap, and Asus already released the Nexus 7, we are certainly on our way to matching that previous report.

Also, we saw a Samsung device by the model number GT-I9260 with “Nexus” attached to it, this morning.

At this point, we can only consider this rumor until more hard evidence comes out. We have seen LG mentioned in Nexus conversations for some…………… continues on Droid Life

Google Nexus rumors suggest phones from Samsung, LG, and Sony this year
News from Android Community:

The time for those Nexus device rumors to start heating up is now. Do you think we’ll see multiple “Nexus” phones this year? Read on to find out.

Back in May the WSJ suggested Google could be offering as many as 5 Nexus devices this year from multiple hardware partners. We already have the Nexus 7 from ASUS, and new reports are now suggesting more this fall from Samsung, LG, and even the folks at Sony. LG’s Vu Ships in Europe With Quad-core Processor

Monday, August 20th, 2012

LG’s Vu Ships in Europe With Quad-core Processor
News from PCWorld:

LG Electronics’ Note competitor Optimus Vu has been equipped with a quad-core processor for its arrival in Europe, Middle East and Latin America, the company said on Monday.

For the global roll-out, the Optimus Vu will be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 3 mobile processor, which is already used in products such as LG’s own Optimus 4X HD and the HTC One X.

The CPU uses four cores to tackle high-performance tasks such as games and HD video playback, and a more frugal processor core that is used for simpler tasks such as calls, emails and music playback to increase battery life, LG said.

The first iteration, which was announced in February, had a dual-core processor. Unlike that version the new one is a 3G smartphone and can’t connect to LTE networks.

Since its March debut in South Korea, the Optimus Vu has sold over 500,000 units, which LG sees as sign that the public, at least in that part of the world, has accepted the form factor. The original version is also available in Japan.

The new version still has a 5-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ration and a 1024-by-768 pixels. The operating system is Android 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, and there is 32GB of storage.

LG isn’t the only company to upgrade the spec of a product that was showed at Mobile World Congress. Samsung Electronics swapped a dual-core process…………… continues on PCWorld

Move over Galaxy Note, LG’s 5-inch smartphone goes international
News from GigaOM:

LG is taking a page out of Samsung’s playbook with the Optimus Vu: A 5-inch Android smartphone that doubles as a tablet. LG is launching the phone internationally next month but it could be a tough sell due to the wide form-factor and aspect ratio.

After selling 500,000 units in Korea since its March debut, the LG Optimus Vu is crossing borders: LG will start selling the 5-inch Android phone internationally in September. The Vu will mainly compete against Samsung’s 5.3-inch Galaxy Note, another large Android handset that the company recently said has crossed the 10 million sales mark. Like the Note, LG’s Optimus Vu includes a stylus for digital note-taking.

Next month, consumers in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America can purchase the international Optimus Vu, which has a few changes from the original edition. Gone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and support for LTE networks. Instead, the revised Optimus Vu uses Nvidia’s Tegra 3 system-on-a-chip along with HSPA+ network support.

Although the Vu’s display is smaller than the Galaxy Note, the phone is wider by 7.45 millimeters or nearly 0.3 inches. The reason? LG…………… continues on GigaOM

LG Announces International Availability Of The Optimus Vu, In All Of Its …
News from Android Police:

After an exclusive stint in South Korea and Japan, LG’s Optimus Vu is about to take various other parts of the world by storm. Select countries in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America will be seeing the Vu hit store shelves in September, and I imagine it’s going to be pretty hard to miss. It’s big. That’s the joke.

LG’s press release says the Vu “blurs the line” between phones and tablets for a “truly unique experience.” I’ll certainly buy that. Having used it in early prototype form myself back at MWC, I was baffled at how LG could go about justifying a smartphone like this, and I don’t mean one with a 5″ screen, but one that has a 4:3 display aspect ratio to go with it. It just makes the phone so… square. Anyway, we already know the Vu is headed to Verizon here in the US (when is another question), so it looks like LG is doubling down w…………… continues on Android Police

OMG! Texting pays big 4 Rhinelander teen

OMG! Texting pays big 4 Rhinelander teen
News from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Texting. An annoying (when someone else is doing it) and sometimes dangerous habit? Or a way to pay for college and impress your friends?

For Austin Wierschke, it turned out to be the latter. The Rhinelander 17-year-old has won the LG U.S. National Texting Championship two years in a row, each time taking home $ 50,000.

“I was watching MTV one day, and I saw an ad for the competition and that’s how I entered,” Austin told me. We had an old-school telephone conversation rather than texting.

The annual contest, which began in 2007, draws more than 500,000 entries, according to sponsor LG Electronics. The speedy texters are narrowed down at various tiers of the competition over a few months until the elite dozen finalists are invited to New York for the championship. Austin won last year and again this month, making him the Michael Phelps of texting and the only repeat winner.

“I’m actually not too sure what makes my thumbs abnormally fast,” he said. “People would notice it and say, ‘Why are you so fast at texting?’ I’d be like, ‘I don’t know. Why aren’t you?’ “

Young people in particular seem to be texting always and everywhere. Math and reading scores aren’t that great in this country, but texting competence is off the charts.

Durrani rejects MQM’s proposals on new LG system

Staff Report

KARACHI: While two major coalition partners, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were still busy in developing consensus on a draft of new local government (LG) system in Sindh, Provincial LG Minister Agha Siraj Durrani has straightforwardly rejected MQM’s proposals on Friday.

Talking to media persons through phone, the PPP leader said that the MQM wanted to get shift all important departments, especially revenue, police, education and food to local governments, but we can not fulfill such a demand.

“What will remain with the provincial government behind if their demand is accepted,” he remarked. According to him, it was not an easy task because for that the government would have to amend 1886 Act. He went on to say that how can local governments run these departments who are unable to pay salaries to their own employees.

The LG minister said that the PPP had agreed to assign tasks pertaining to basic health, primary education and other such functions to the local governments.

LG Optimus 2X to Receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich?

LG Optimus 2X to Receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich?
News from The Droid Guy:

LG Optimus 2X is rumored to get the Android 4.0 update. But until last month, it was totally denied that the LG Optimus 2X will not be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich. However, things might have turned around for the Optimus 2X now because there seem to be a glimmer of hope for those who still believe – word on the street has it that LG’s Korean office has claimed that an Ice Cream Sandwich OS update is still in the company’s pipeline. However, there is a very high possibility that additional testing is still required.

Although, there are no promises made by the manufacturer to deliver the software update, but LG just might do their best to deliver this update to their users. Keep in mind that patience will play out the entire scenario and we do wonder whether the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will be released on the selected markets or will it be available for LG Optimus 2X user’s state side as well.

The LG Optimus 2X or otherwise known as the LG-P990, was presented last year as the first and the fastest dual core smart phone on the market. The LG Optimus 2X won all the benchmarks people threw at it and most of those tests were not even using the latest features that its NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor can accelerate.

LG Optimus 4X HD Phones 4 U pre-order & Cheryl Cole
News from Phones Review:

If you are over here in the United Kingdom, and have had your eyes on the LG Optimus 4X HD, and perhaps a fan of songstress Cheryl Cole, as long as you are quick off the mark, you can now pre-order the LG Optimus 4X HD smartphone from Phones 4u, and the first fifty people to pre-order the Android smartphone will also receive tickets to see Cheryl Cole live at the LG Arena in October.

Each of those first 50 people who pre-order the LG Optimus 4X HD, including upgrades from Phones 4u will be given two tickets worth 100-quid to see Cheryl perform in October. Cheryl recently topped the iTunes charts with ‘Call My Name,’ and is taking ‘A Million Lights,’ her 3rd Album on her first solo country wide arena tour in October.

Those customers who are lucky enough to get the Cheryl Cole concert tickets will be able to watch her perform songs from all three of her solo albums on the 12th of October at the LG Arena in Birmingham, although I do have to be truthful and have to say that as this promo kicked off two days ago the chances of being amongst that first 50 to pre-order are probably quite slim to say the least.

Still even if you don’t win a pair of ticket to see Cheryl Cole doing her thing, if you are in the market fo…………… continues on Phones Review
