LG is looking to score big with its next flagship phone, the LG Optimus G, which it said will be the “world’s first” LTE device with a quad-core CPU. It’ll also posses a whopping 13-megapixel camera and a 4.7-inch HD display. Though the device hasn’t been made available yet, judging by its specs and LG’s recent devices, it has plenty of superphone potential.

Design
The LG Optimus G measures 5.19 inches tall, 2.71 inches wide, and 0.33 inch thick, making it slightly wider and thinner than the Optimus 4X HD (which measures 5.19 inches by 2.69 inches by 0.38 inch). Because of the screen’s new Touch Hybrid Display technology, the Optimus G’s display is also thinner than those currently on the market.

The phone weighs 5.11 ounces, making it a bit lighter than the 4X HD as well, but the height remains the same. In other words, tall. It won’t be able to fit in front or back jean pockets, nor will it be easy to use with one hand, but it’s thin and light enough to throw in a clutch or small bag without much fuss.

LG said that the handset’s back is made of…………… continues on CNET

LG, Philips Join Up for Internet TV Amid Apple Threat
News from Businessweek:

Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Google Inc. (GOOG)’s rise in the smartphone market has pushed Nokia Oyj (NOK1V) and Research In Motion Ltd. to the brink. Now, television makers are scrambling to make sure the same won’t happen to them.

At the IFA consumer-electronics fair in Berlin this week, manufacturers including Toshiba Corp. (6502), LG Electronics Inc. (066570) and Royal Philips Electronics NV (PHIA) are banding together to develop a common system that allows users to listen to music, watch videos and play games via the Internet on TV sets.

Television makers are wagering that mobile-phone users who are hooked to consuming content will want the same access — and on bigger screens — when they return home. For manufacturers to hold back Apple and Google, both making steps to take a slice of the TV market, they have to develop a joint operating system because consumers won’t accept more than a few competing platforms, said Klaus Boehm, the head of media practice at Deloitte LLP in Dusseldorf, Germany.

LG Motion 4G (MetroPCS)

LG Motion 4G (MetroPCS)
News from PC Magazine:

By Sascha Segan

The LG Motion 4G is a tremendous value for the money. While it isn’t MetroPCS’s best phone, and it certainly has its quirks, it’s hard to argue for what you’re getting at $ 99-149 without a contract here: Android 4.0 running with a dual-core processor on a fast network. At the very least, the Motion 4G puts competing budget smartphones to shame.

LG took the wraps off the latest addition to its L-Series line of smartphones this evening.

Featuring Android 4.0 (aka Ice Cream Sandwich), the Optimus L9 will sport a 1GHz dual-core processor and 4.7-inch IPS display. The 9.1-millimeter-thick L9 will also feature a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a high-density 2150 mAH SiO+ battery.

The new phone, which is expected to debut this week at the IFA 2012 consumer-electronics trade show in Berlin, will come bundled with QTranslator, MY Style Keypad, and QMemo apps. LG is touting QTranslator’s use of optical character recognition technology to translate words and full sentences from nearly 44 foreign languages into 64 user languages.

LG Launches Optimus G, an LTE Smartphone With a Quad-core Processor
News from PCWorld:

LG Electronics has launched an LTE smartphone with a quad-core processor, the Optimus G, which it hopes will set it apart from the competition as the smartphone market starts to ramp up for the holiday season.

The next month will see plenty of competition, with the expected launch of a new iPhone, Nokia’s first Windows Phone 8-based smartphones and the successor to Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note.

LG’s Optimus G has a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 by 768 pixels, 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera. But it’s the combination of LTE connectivity and a 1.5GHz quad-core processor that sets it apart from the current crop of high-end smartphones, which have either LTE and a dual-core processor or a quad-core processor and 3G.

The processor that makes it possible for LG to marry the two is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro or APQ8064, which can be integrated with Qualcomm’s 3G and LTE modems and modules, making it possible for LG and others to develop versions that match the spectrum bands used across the world.

The processor can also independently control each of its four cores to improve battery life, according to Qualcomm.

The fact that the processor is available to LG also means that other vendors can also use it in their next-generation flagship smartphones.

Other features that LG is highlighting include…………… continues on PCWorld

Will Verizon be launching LG Intuition on September 15th?
News from The Droid Guy:

In this amidst crowd of Smart phones, we have another stiff competition at our hands in this September. Who is it this time? Samsung? HTC? It’s neither Samsung nor HTC; in fact it’s none other than LG, joining the big league of Smartphone companies like Samsung and Apple, to be releasing their phone next month.

The LG Optimus VU is coming to Verizon finally. This isn’t something new for the daily techno buffs since we’ve been hearing this news from a very long time and it’s about time the phone comes out. However, there is something new from the daily news, the carrier, as Verizon plans on changing the name of the phone which would soon appear on the line named as the LG Intuition.

There have been leaked pictures seen of the phone over the internet, which we suspect aren’t the real ones however we’ll still give you a quick review about it. The press render seems to show the all new Optimus VU/ Intuition with the collaboration of Verizon. The pictures are pretty much similar to the live pictures which have already been seen by most of us.

Another interesting thing about the phone is that it gives us clues towards the date when the phone is likely to be re…………… continues on The Droid Guy

Coolpad: We Can Build Better Budget Phones
News from PC Magazine:

MetroPCS today announced the Coolpad Quattro 4G, the first U.S. smartphone from Chinese firm Yulong Coolpad.

The Quattro 4G is $ 99 without a contract, but Coolpad says it can offer a better build quality and better radio performance at $ 99 than its competitors.

This may be Coolpad’s first U.S. phone, but it’s a well-known name in Asia. Yulong Coolpad has been making phones since 1993. The brand “Coolpad” comes from the old “PDA days,” when the company was known for its Chinese-language handwriting recognition software, Nick Chen, president of Coolpad Americas said.

Like its much larger rivals Huawei and ZTE, Coolpad is based in Shenzhen. With 3,000 employees, it’s only a tiny fraction of those other companies’ size. But it punches well above its weight; continues on PC Magazine

LG’s Next-Gen Phone Has New Display, Battery, Snapdragon

LG’s Next-Gen Phone Has New Display, Battery, Snapdragon
News from Tom’s Hardware Guide:

LG’s next-gen smartphone will feature a new battery, a new touchscreen, and the Snapdragon S4 SoC.

LG Electronics sent along an interesting press release over the weekend in regards to its next-generation smartphone. Unlike other phone manufacturers which tap into the supply chain to acquire their components such as the display and battery, LG said it developed the new device in conjunction with its three “vertically-integrated” sister companies — LG Chem, LG Display and LG Innotek — which provided a new display and battery.

“Working closely with our affiliate companies allowed us a degree of control that very few smartphone makers have with their component partners,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our next smartphone will be a game changer for us because we were able to incorporated all the best-of-best technologies from our sister companies with one single objective in mind – to give customers the best user experience that we were collectively capable of.”

What does the Apple v. Samsung verdict mean to LG?

Now that Samsung owes Apple more than $ 1B in patent infringements, what can LG do to set itself apart?

After a jury decided on Friday that Samsung owes Apple $ 1 billion in reparations due to patent infringements, many other OEMs who sport Google’s Android OS (which could be Apple’s real target) may be batting down the hatches.

Though it looks like, for now, Apple isn’t suing anyone else, it’s easy to understand why LG should pay close attention to this trial’s verdict and even closer attention to its fierce competitor, Samsung.

LG launches a teaser campaign for ‘second generation’ quad-core flagship phone
News from The Droid Guy:

We have been listening to many rumors regarding LG’s intent to create a new flagship phone. The new smartphone was said to be a next gen quad core smartphone, and since Qualcomm disclosed the fact that they were indeed supplying Snapdragon S4 Pro processors to LG, there’s no doubt as to LG is surely cooking something in their labs, and now the South Korean smartphone manufacturer is giving a hint to its fans by launching a teaser site.

The teaser site contains a video that explains the new flagship smartphone and its second generation quad core processor. The name has also been changed from ‘D1L’ and will be a ’2nd gen’ quad core device, not like the 4X HD which made a European launch in June. The company has also put a range of specifications on the teaser site which will of course make it to the quad core smartphone they’re talking about in the video. The second gen quad core flagship smartphone is expected to be armed with 720p 4.7-inch IPS display, 2GB of RAM and for those folks who care a lot about imaging capability of a smartphone, you won’t be unhappy as this little beast is expected to come with a 13 megapixel rear shooter.

LG’s upcoming flagship phone will showcase new laminated 720p display, better …
News from The Verge:

LG is confirming a number of rumors about its upcoming quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro-based smartphone, and from the sound of it, the device is pushing Android phone design ahead on a number of fronts. The phone, codenamed the G (“Optimus” is conspicuously missing from the press release), won’t just be the first with Qualcomm’s new APQ8064 processor, it will be the first with LG Display’s new True HD IPS+, as well. According to LG, that means the G’s 4.7-inch 1280×768 LCD will be able to display an all-white screen at 470 nits of brightness using 70 percent less power than AMOLED. And unlike a lot of AMOLED displays on the market, this will have an ordinary RGB stripe rather than the divisive RGBG PenTile pixel arrangement. The new screen tech is headed to the Optimus Vu 2 as well, says LG, presumably sometime later in the year.

This sounds exactly like the ‘in-cell’ touchscreens LG began mass-producing earlier this month

Perhaps more importantly, this will also be the first display from LG to have a new laminated touchscreen, called the G2 Touch Hybr…………… continues on The Verge

LG Posts Teaser for New Snapdragon Quad-core Powered Phone
News from Droid Life:

LG appears to be on the verge of releasing the most powerful smartphone on the planet. In a new teaser, they have confirmed that they are working on a phone powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro, better known to most of us as the quad-core variant of the chip we are seeing in handsets today. This chipset sports an Adreno 320 GPU, one that should make all other mobile graphics processing units look silly. We have seen benchmarks of tablets (and phones?) with this processor inside and have been blown away.

What we want to know, is if a processor this powerful, is enough to get you to buy an LG phone? Will we see it at IFA next week, along with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2?
