LG Optimus 4X HD comes in mid-June

LG Optimus 4X HD comes in mid-June
News from Fudzilla:

€499 preorders at Amazon

LG was the phone maker to offer a dual-core phone with last year’s LG Optimus 2X, the first phone to ship with Tegra 2, but in 2012, LG missed the change to be the first with a quad-core phone.

First to ship quad-core based phones was Taiwanese HTC and we are hearing that international version of HTC One X is selling just fine. LG has just announced that its LG Optimus 4X HD will become available in June, with availability by mid-June and the official price is sky high, €649 to be precise.

However, German branch of Amazon has this phone listed for preorders for €499 which is much more competitive and good price. Just two days ago Samsung has came out with Galaxy S III phone, yet another quad-core with a very nice spec and LG won’t have an easy time competing with Sammy.

Having a €499 price versus Galaxy S III at €599 is a good start, but we have to wait and see if LG Optimus 4X HD can live to its expectations. Optimus 4X HD comes with micro SD slot, 2150 mA replaceable battery and 4.7-inch true IPS display with 1280×720 resolution.

We are not sure what LG wanted to say with this picture, as the phone looks absolutely huge, which probably has more to do with the choice of lens and the petit model used in the shot.

A Facebook Phone? You’re Kidding, Right?
News from PCWorld:

I normally don’t comment on rumors, and I have no direct knowledge of any initiatives related to the topic at hand today, so let’s put this one in the realm of hypothetical strategy. We do a lot of strategy work here at Farpoint Group; I think the setting of grand objectives and the derivation of the plans, techniques, procedures, resoruces, tools, and risk/reward analysis to achieve those objectives is a lot of fun and really at the essence of making any business work. And I think in the early days of setting a new direction with respect to all of this, which can be a long, involved process even at smaller firms, all options should be on the table. That’s why I often like to start these projects with brainstorming sessions, where no idea is too crazy for consideration. At one firm I was involved with we did this annually, and called it “Entrepreneur Day” Tons of new, novel, and even patentable ideas came up. It was often hard to decide which represented the optimal path to growth, profitability, image, or whatever we were optimizing for at the time. And even ideas that were initially crazy evolved, on occasion, into something practical.

TECH TIME REVIEW: Verizon’s LG Lucid offers decent smartphone for low price

TECH TIME REVIEW: Verizon’s LG Lucid offers decent smartphone for low price
News from Heritage Newspapers:

There are tons of new smartphone releases each year, usually each one greater than the next as all the big brands compete to have the most popular and latest greatest phone on the market.

These are the offerings that draw the crowd that wants the absolute best, but they are usually pretty pricey. So what is someone to do who wants to save a few bucks but not get a junk phone?

Thankfully, there is an increasing amount of quality products coming out for the more budget conscious. For Verizon Wireless customers, this list now includes the LG Lucid, a new smartphone from Verizon that isn’t going to compete with the biggest name phones like your iPhones, HTC Ones or Galaxy S3s, but will serve the needs of a less demanding user.

I recently spent some time with the Lucid, and here’s a full report.

LOOKS

You get the standard thin candybar design on the Lucid, and its 4-inch screen is pretty large but smaller than many new phones on the market. This may or not be something you appreciate. If you want a huge phone, there are plenty of options out there bigger than the Lucid. But I’m willing to bet most people will find 4 inches big enough. It feels quite comfortable in your hand, which is important. Gorilla Glass protects the screen, which is nice, and the weight is a very light 5 ounces. Exact size specs are 4.69…………… continues on Heritage Newspapers

UK: LG Prada 3.0 can now be yours for just £239.99
News from Unwired View:

The LG Prada 3.0 (or Prada Phone by LG 3.0, or Prada Phone 3.0 by LG – the company doesn’t seem to be very clear about this phone’s name) has been available in the UK since February. So far, the pricing’s been indicative of a typical high-end Android smartphone. But now you have the chance of getting a pretty decent handset for a great price. And let’s not forget that it has the name Prada slapped on its front – that’s got to be worth something to someone.

The Prada 3.0 can now be yours for just £239.99, a far cry from the £400+ you were previously required to pay for this exact same device. Expansys is the retailer making this possible, so go there and order some Pradas. At this price, it’s actually not a bad smartphone.

LG debuts new 5 inch HD display with 440ppi pixel density
News from The Driod Guy:

Smart phones are obviously doing stuffs the first mobile phone was not at all intended to do. But hey, that is what innovation and advancement is supposed to be. So today we have awesome tiny smart phones and bigger smart phones with screens up to 5.3 inches which have functionality of a smart phone as well as a tablet. For all these kinds of applications, you need to have a great display which lets you see stuffs on it in more detail. And with improving cameras on smart phones, watching recorded videos and viewing captured images on the smart phone is very important. So, advancement in display technology was imminent.

In this regard, LG has come out with an awesome display now which will definitely give Apple’s Retina Display a run for its money. The new 5 inch display which was showcased by LG very recently is a high definition display with 440 points per inch (ppi) pixel density, and that means it is really, really good. Displays like this for sure find their best utilization in smart phones.

Its 16:9 aspect ratio was designed with HD content in mind, and the LCD technology isn’t anything to sneeze at, either: it’s a variant of IPS known as Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS), which is said to boast wide viewing angles, fast response times and improved brightness efficiency.

LG smartphone buying guide

Monday, May 28th, 2012

LG smartphone buying guide
News from PC World Magazine:

LG is arguably more renowned for its budget, low-end smartphones but the company produces a range of premium phones using both the Android and Windows Phone platforms.

LG Android phones

LG phones running the Android OS are marketed as the Optimus range. The Optimus range includes both low-end and premium models.

Many of the more popular Optimus models have been budget phones like the Optimus One and Optimus Me, though the Optimus 2X and Optimus Black are good examples of higher end Android phones.

LG was the first manufacturer to release a phone with a dual-core processor (the Optimus 2X) and was also the first manufacturer to release a glasses-free 3D smartphone in Australia (the Optimus 3D). The company has also partnered with Italian fashion label Prada to release the Prada Phone 3.0.

LG Windows Phone range

LG also manufactures smartphones running the Windows Phone operating system. The Windows Phone platform was redesigned from the ground up by Microsoft in 2010 as an advancement to its clunky predecessor, Windows Mobile 6.5.

LG currently has two Windows Phone powered smartphones on sale in Australia. The company’s flagship device in this range is the 7Q, which is one of the only…………… continues on PC World Magazine

LG builds the world’s first HD LCD smartphone touchscreen
News from Inquirer:

KOREAN DISPLAY AND PHONE MAKER LG has raised the bar in the smartphone stakes by making a 5in full HD LCD panel, the highest resolution LCD screen to date.

LG’s new display has 440ppi resolution, which means it has more pixels per inch than both the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Iphone 4S. It also uses AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) for a 1920×1080 pixel display, which means the screen will boast image quality that’s the same as an HDTV and should feature excellent outdoor visibility.

“As smartphones become increasingly valued for how well they do multimedia and with the rapid growth of LTE enabling faster large file transfers, our new 5 [inch] Full HD LCD panel is certain to prove a significant asset to the mobile market,” said Sang-Deok Yeo, CTO and EVP of LG Display.

“With the world’s highest resolution smartphone display, LG Display continues to remain a step ahead in developing the most innovative in display technology products.”

LG expects to start producing phones with the 5in full HD LCD display in the second half of 2012, which might be too late to challenge Samsung’s latest Galaxy S III smartphone. µ

LG’s smartphone dilemma lingers

LG’s smartphone dilemma lingers
News from Korea Times:

LG’s Optimus LTE phone

By Cho Mu-hyun

LG Electronics’ long-term evolution (LTE) phone sales exceeded the 3 million mark Sunday but its difficulty in the smartphone market isn’t easing as competitors show numbers that drastically outperform the Yeouido-based company.

Korea’s second largest handset manufacturer announced Sunday that its LTE phones have reached 3 million global sales, barely a benchmark compared to numbers and market share by competing companies, especially Samsung Electronics.

Earlier in Barcelona, during the Mobile World Congress in February, LG stated its goal to sell 8 million LTE phones and a total of 35 million smartphones this year.

According to Strategy Analytics, the worldwide leader in handset sales for the first quarter of 2012 was Samsung with a 25 percent market share. Nokia was the runner-up with 22.4 percent, while LG had a mere 3.7 percent.

LG’s sales have steadily declined in the past year. In the first and second quarter of 2011 it held 6.9 percent of the global market share but it dropped to 5.4 percent in the third and 4 percent in the fourth quarters. The firm currently ranks ninth among global handset makers.

In LTE phones alone, LG is third with 13 percent, but Samsung…………… continues on Korea Times

Preview: LG Optimus LTE2

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Preview: LG Optimus LTE2
News from ARNnet:

The LG Optimus LTE2 will initially launch in Korea next month.

The LG Optimus LTE2 is the first smartphone to include 2GB of RAM.

LG was the first smartphone manufacturer to produce a phone with a dual-core processor — the Optimus 2X — and was also first with a quad-core powered smartphone, the Optimus 4X HD. It has now switched the focus from processor to RAM with the LTE2. Obviously, the “2″ in the LTE2 name refers to its 2GB of RAM.

RAM aside, the biggest attraction of the LG Optimus LTE2 appears to be 4G LTE connectivity. LG hasn’t finalised specifications for the device, which is currently only scheduled to launch in Korea. However, if it does launch in Australia it will most definitely work on Telstra’s 1800MHz 4G LTE network.

The LG Optimus LTE2 is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The dual-core processor includes an integrated LTE chip on board. Most users shouldn’t notice a speed difference between a dual-core smartphone and a quad-core one during r…………… continues on ARNnet

Suspects distract restaurant employee, steal cellphones
News from The Times and Democrat:

T&D Staff Report The Times and Democrat | Posted: Saturday, May 26, 2012 10:15 am |

EUTAWVILLE — Three men managed to distract an employee of China Town restaurant on Old Number Six Highway in Eutawville long enough to steal an iPhone and an LG phone on May 22.

According to Eutawville Police Chief Wesley Cook, the theft occurred around 1 p.m. The employee told Cook the trio entered the store and placed an order, then told her they didn’t have any money.

When the employee went to alert the manager in the kitchen, two of the men left the restaurant.

The remaining man asked the employee about the order he had placed, and she told him he could not get any food unless he paid for it.

He then left the store, the report said.

About an hour later, the employee realized her two cellphones were gone.

She reviewed surveillance video from the security cameras and noticed one of the men went behind the counter and grabbed the cellphones while she was in the kitchen talking to the manager.

Cook also reviewed the video, then asked around t…………… continues on The Times and Democrat

LG Optimus 3D Max
News from CNET:

In a world full of cheap gimmicks, it seems easy to slap on the 3D moniker in order to compensate for a product that isn’t up to par. (Remember that Justin Bieber movie, “Never Say Never”? Exactly.)

But in the case of the LG Optimus 3D Max, the successor to 2011′s LG Optimus 3D, the 3D feature may actually be the device’s downfall instead of its saving grace. Everything else about the handset is perfectly adequate — it has a decent 5-megapixel camera and a zippy 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and it’s NFC-enabled. Its biggest setback, however, is its 3D feature, which still has a few kinks to work out and bogs the phone down when connected to a data network.

Introduced in February at Mobile World Congress and launched about a month ago in Europe, the Optimus 3D Max is going for about $ 635 unlocked. But you won’t find the 3D Max in the States yet, and there’s no word on the carrier, pricing, or release date. So until it makes its way across the ocean, we’ll just have to get our 3D action someplace else.

LG to resurrect the slide-out Qwerty with LS860 Cayenne handset
News from Pocket-lint.com:

24 May 2012 13:04 GMT / By Danny Brogan

An image (albeit blurry) and specs of an LG phone have emerged with what’s clearly a slide-out Qwerty keyboard.

The phone is said to be the LG LS860, which is being referred to within LG’s inner circle as the “Cayenne”, and sports a 5-row Qwerty keyboard.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen an LG sliding Qwerty device, with it now concentrating on the more fashionable touchscreen models, though the design used to be a mainstay in the Korean manufacturer’s portfolio – remember the LG KS360?

The specs are few and far between, but what we can decipher is that it will run o…………… continues on Pocket-lint.com

LG Optimus 3D Max Review

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

LG Optimus 3D Max Review
News from Digitaltrends.com:

The LG Optimus 3D Max takes a second attempt at bringing glasses-free 3D to an Android phone.

LG hasn’t had a ton of commercial success with its Android phones in the United States, but in Europe and other regions, its Optimus brand has been doing well. Last year, we reviewed the LG Thrill 4G, an AT&T rebranding of LG’s Optimus 3D phone. It was a dual-core Android handset with glasses-free 3D built right into the screen, similar to the Nintendo 3DS and HTC EVO 3D (if you happened to see that phone before it’s quick death). Well, LG must have had better luck with 3D than HTC, because a second version of the Optimus 3D is already available in Europe. But does it fix the problems with its predecessor?

Verizon’s LG Optimus LTE2 Appears Again, This Time at the GCF
News from Droid Life:

An LG device with the model number VS930 has been on our radar for a few weeks now, most likely as Verizon’s version of the LG Optimus LTE2. The model number matches up to the naming scheme that Big Red has used in the past for LG phones – VS920 (Spectrum) and VS910 (Revolution). We also saw a benchmark for the device appear back in early April with Verizon tags all over it. Today, it popped up again, this time at the GCF (Global Certification Forum) with a bunch of global radios inside and not a mention of the CDMA or LTE bands we expect to see when the phone finds its way to the States. Our guess, is that most VZW phones going forward will have global roaming capabilities and that’s what was being tested for here.

For those not familiar, the Optimus LTE2 is LG’s attempt at competing with Samsung and the Galaxy SIII. They even announced it to the world on the same day that the GS3…………… continues on Droid Life
